Jump Up Media cold call con

Please report any problems with this company to Manchester Citizen's Advice on tel 08454 04 05 06 (9am to 5pm) (8.45am to 5pm) and they will refer it onto Manchester Trading Standards.

Foreword

I have added this paragraph after this mater has been successfully resolved  as it is important you know this before reading the rest.  All the following paragraphs were added shortly after each event. Jump Up Media t/a Talking Fast Ltd may well be a genuine company, I cannot prove otherwise.  However my involvement with them left a lot to be desired.  If you do get involved with this company I would advise you to take the following precautions;
  • Don't agree to pay any money on the first call.
  • Make a note of the names of everyone you speak to and document it.
  • Make sure they send you detailed information of the service they will supply you with including a complete list of the key phrases that will be used either in writing or via e-mail BEFORE you pay them any money.   Credit card companies won't do anything unless you can provide written proof.
  • Shop around and check out Google's other authorised partners under Google adwords.
Please Note: I cannot vouch for the authenticity of any of the third party comments on this blog.
    The Story from the beginning

    I don't normally buy anything from cold callers full stop but today I got caught.  I had been looking for ways to further advertise my Pet Portrait Service and had had friends recommend giving Google a try on several occasions but I had always dismissed the idea.  Today I got called by someone who I shall refer to as 'CJ', who said he was calling on behalf of Google.  He was offering top ranking for my web site for a period of 31 days for 5 key word phrases for just £99.  He seemed to know a bit about my web site and made it sound very convincing.  What he was selling;
    • I was told that within 48 hours my web site would be placed at the top of a Google search page for my 5 key phrases and if it didn't I could get my money back.
    • I would be able to change those key phrases at any time for free should I wish.
    • He also assured me that he would be my personal Google account manager and I could ring him at any time should I have a question or problem.
    • After the 31 days if I wanted to continue I would just need to let them know but it would not automatically renew.
    • All for just £99.  (I wasn't too convinced about the 'just' as it seemed a lot of money for a month but he pointed out I should easily be able to recoup that amount by increased sales.)
Against my better judgement I decided to give it a go.  It then transpired he was not from Google itself but a company called Jump Up Media t/a Talkingfast LTD a Google Certified Partner.  I checked out their web site which initially seemed genuine enough and even checked that their company was registered with Companies House which it had been for a couple of years.  He said he needed to take payment over the phone but that I would get an invoice e-mailed to me with all the details straight after the call. I agreed to pay by credit card where-upon the price automatically went up by £10 to pay for 'Google inclusion'.  I told him "you said it would be just £99" and he replied that this was a one off free that Google make and he had already explained that to me.  I told him he hadn't said anything about that and as he was now producing extra hidden fees I didn't want anything to do with this and wanted to cancel the whole thing.  He spoke to his manager and they agreed to wave the £10.
I went ahead with the purchase.  How stupid is that???

After nearly 2 hours I had not been e-mailed an invoice as promised so I phoned the Jump Up Media back but was told 'CJ' was on the phone so I asked the person about the invoice.  I was told that 'CJ' should not have told my t would be sent straight away as it can take up to 2-3 days but she agreed to get one sent out today.  When it arrived the £99 had gone up to £118.80 as vat had been included.  There had been no mention of vat during my conversation with 'CJ' and I had taken "just £99" to mean just that.  I am not vat registered so cannot claim that back.

I got back on the phone to Jump Up Media but once again 'CJ' was not available.  I voiced my concern and was put through to someone I shall refer to as 'AW' in customer services.  I told him I wanted to pull out of the whole deal and get a refund.  He said he could not do that and I should have expected them to charge vat on top of the price quoted but he would listen to the tape and if it was the case that vat had not been mentioned he would, "as a gesture of goodwill" refund my vat.  He promised to get back to my by 5pm tonight.  He also said that for future months I would only be charged £99 inclusive of vat should I decide to stay with them.  I told him there was no chance of that.

Jump Up Media may well be a genuine company and my site might get top ranking for 31 days but if that is the case why do they need to employ such sharp selling techniques?  Unfortunately there is no way of contacting Google in the UK to confirm their credentials as Google don't supply a contact e-mail or phone number.  Google do supply a postal address in London but by the time my letter had found it's way to the correct department and I had received a reply my 31 day period would probably be almost up.  It remains to be seen if I do get my vat back but I will let you know either way.   In the mean time, if you do get contacted by Jump Up Media steer well clear.

17:30hrs - No call came from Jump Up Media so I contacted my credit card company.  I was informed that as the transaction had not fully been processed onto my account they could not do anything at this stage but I should call them back in 3 days time.  By then the details of the transaction should be on my account and I can report it to their complaints team for investigation.  He told me that I had a case as I only authorised a withdrawal of £99 and they took more.  He said any hidden charges should have been made clear no matter what they were for.  If I don't get any satisfaction from Jump Up Media before hand I will contact the credit card company back on Friday.  Watch this space for updates.

Wednesday 20th July - Still nothing heard from Jump Up Media so I rang them again this morning about 10:30.  I asked to speak to 'AW' but was told he was on a call but that he would call me back straight afterwards.

15:30 - Still no call back from 'AW' so I phoned again.  He was apparently still on the phone but I was invited to hold if I wished.  I said I would but when no one got back to me after 25 minutes I hung up and rang again.  I spoke to the same lady receptionist who said she was sitting next to 'AW' and he was still on the same call.  She said she would pass the message on to phone me back as soon as he finished his call which she expected to be in the next 10 minutes.

    No phone call came!

Thursday 21st July - Well it's been over 48 hours now so my web site should now be coming up at the top of any Google UK search  for each of my key phrases, but it's not even appearing on the first page for any of them!  'CJ' did say if this happened I would get a full refund.  I phoned Jump Up Media and spoke to the same receptionist again who's name I now know and will refer to as 'B'.  She told me 'CJ' was unavailable as he was on the phone.  I explained to her that he told me when he convinced me to sign up with Jump Up Media that he would be my personal Google account manager and I could phone him if ever I had a problem.  She said that as he is in sales he is always on the phone so very difficult to get hold of.  I then explained that it had been over 48 hours and my site was not top of any Google UK page.  'B' said she would have to discuss the matter with tech support and would get back to me by the close of play today.

In the mean time I have gone through Jump Up Media's terms of service that they sent me.  It states there that they will renew the service each month unless I write to them giving them 30 days notice!  This is contrary to what I was told on the phone before I agreed to the service.

I have now written a letter to the company pointing out that they are in breach of contract on the 48 hour front and demanding my money back as promised.  I have also informed them I will not be renewing so they are not authorised to take any more money out of my account.  Letter to sent by recorded delivery very shortly.  I am also writing to my credit card company to keep them fully appraised.

    Result!...tentative :-)
14:55 hrs 'B' phone back (well that was a result in itself).  She told me that the reason my site had not gone live was because 'AW' asked the tech team to put a hold on it as he was investigating the possibility of refunding my money in full.  She then said that she could confirm a full refund would be available if that is what I want but it would need to be via a cheque.  I asked why it couldn't simply be put back on my credit card but she said they did not have that facility.  I accepted the refund via cheque.  She told me it would be put in the post either by end of play today or first thing tomorrow morning.  I thanked her for her help.  Of course, I won't fully believe it until it is in my hands but at least I feel I am getting somewhere.  In the mean time the letters have gone out to Jump Up Media and my credit card company as stated above and I was in the process of composing a letter to Google UK but I'll put a hold on that one for the time being.

    ooOOOoo

Friday 22nd July - contacted my credit card company again to appraise them of the current situation and to see if my letter had arrived. They did not yet have my letter but would open the case in the mean time.  They would be in contact with me once the letter arrives to see where to take it from there and check to see if Jump Up Media did indeed send the cheque.  They also told me there was nothing to stop Jump Up Media refunding the money back onto the credit card.

I have just searched Google for Google Certified Partners, which Jump Up Media claim to be as shown on their web site, but Google returned no results for Jump Up Media or for their t/a name of Talkingfast Ltd.   This is where I searched https://adwords.google.com/professionals/search/
You might like to try it yourself.

This is looking more and more like Jump Up Media t/a Talkingfast LTD might be a spoof company.

Saturday morning  - a cheque arrives from Jump Up Media!...the cheque has been written out incorrectly.  The cheque is written for £118.80 in words but the figure in the box is £118.00.  There is a covering letter with it from a person I shall refer to as 'RM' from the Retentions Department. The letter doesn't say much other than to say there is a cheque enclosed for £118.80.  I took this and the cheque to the bank but they won't accept the cheque even for £118 and told me I'd have to get back in contact with the company to ask them to send out a new one.  This could be a genuine mistake but I think this was probably deliberate as a stalling method, after all, there was no reason for them not to simply put the money back on my credit card.

Looking closer at their web site this company is looking more and more like a fake.  The testimonials page has 3 testimonials with the clients name and web address.  The first testimonial was by a Mr Akay Arnold for a Pan-Asian restaurant in Manchester but the phone number on the web site is not in use so I can't check that one out. There is a e-mail address for Akay but as Jump Up Media also build web sites this restaurant web site might also be fake along with any e-mail addresses.  The second is for The Amblehurst Hotel, also in Manchester and the person leaving the testimonial was Mr A Hussain.  I phoned the hotel, they had never heard of this person but there was no one there to confirm if their hotel had had any dealing with Jump Up Media and suggested I phone back on Monday.  The last was from a Mrs N Dean - B Inspired, a chocolate company but their web site simply doesn't exist.  Draw your own conclusions.

    ooOOOoo

Monday 25th July 2011 09:04 - Phoned Jump Up Media again and spoke to 'B'.  She is actually 'RM' the  person who sent the letter and cheque.  I pointed out the mistake and she said she would have to get in touch with her manager 'R' as he signed the cheque and would have to write another.  I cannot read the signature on the cheque so I'd just have to take his word for it.  I told her that the credit card company said there is no reason to prevent you simply refunding the money back onto my card.  She said she didn't know why they didn't do that but they never had.  she said she would mention this to 'R' when he came in but he was not in the office yet.  I asked her to get him to call me if he was unable to refund the money back onto my card.

09:20 - Phoned my credit card company but the charge back department were not open yet.  The lady I spoke to said my letter was still not on my account either although the notes were.  She said if the letter had been posted on Thursday it probably would not get entered onto my account until Tuesday so I should ring back then.  I explained to her the events over the weekend and she advised me to photocopy the letter and cheque and send that into them as this provides stronger proof for the claim, she would update the account accordingly.

14:25hrs - Still not been phoned back by Jump Up Media so I rang again and spoke to 'RM'.  She said that 'R' had still not been into the office or answered any of his calls but she had left a message on his mobile for him to ring her about this.  She said that she would keep trying but that if she did not hear from him by 3 o'clock she would try and get another manager involved.

16:00 hrs - I phoned Jump Up Media again and spoke to 'RM'.  She said that 'R' had still not turned up but she was expecting him in soon.  She then said she would make some enquiries in the accounts dept and put me on hold.  When she came back to me she said that 'R' wasn't back you but the dept had already issued another cheque and posted it to me.  I said I was not happy with that as I wanted it put back onto my card.  She apologised and said she had told them that.  I voiced my concerns over the testimonials not checking out and the fact that Google didn't seem to have any record of their company being a Google Certified Partner.  She insisted the company was legit and if I wished I could be put through to a manager to have that confirmed.  I could not see much point in that.  She also told me the web site was in the process of being rebuilt so many of the links were disabled.

    ooOOOoo

Wednesday 27th July  - I am now in possession of a second cheque with covering letter.  This time it looks OK, it remains to be seen if it gets cleared.  Funnily enough, despite being told that 'R' was not available and this cheque had been issued by someone else in the accounts department also without 'RM's' knowledge, the cheque was signed by the same person who signed the original and the letter was apparently from 'RM'.  Things still don't really add up but as long as this cheque clears I'll be happy.  If I get it paid in today it will still be at least a week before I know for sure.  I will update this blog accordingly either way.

    ooOOOoo

Friday 8th August - The bank has now had 7 working days to clear this cheque and it is appearing OK on-line so I guess that means it's gone through OK.   Looks like they delivered on their promise after all but just had a strange way of going about it.  Not sure I would have got the same result if I hadn't put up a fight though.

    Tuesday 6th September - At 12:52 today I was contacted by phone by Andrew Pearson, Operations manager of Jump Up Media.  He was concerned about the catalogue of problems I had had with the company and wanted to assure me they were doing all they could to improve their performance so this would never happen again.  He told me that B had been sent on a training course, another employee had been 'let go' and AW had been given a talking to.  I told him that out of all of them 'B' seemed to be the most genuine and was the only person to return any calls and appeared to do her best to try and sort things out but that she was in the difficult position of being stuck in the middle.  Andrew Pearson then asked me what measures I thought the company should take to improve the service they offer.  I mentioned a list;

    1. They should always return calls when promised.  He said this was being addressed in a training course.
    2. Customers that are cold called should not be expected to have to give out their credit card details straight away but should be given time to think about it and research their key phrases.  He said it was difficult as they needed to get things under-way quickly as only one business of any one type would be called at a time so that there would not be more than one business chasing the same top spot.  He did say that they would probably be able to allow a customer a few hours to think it over and then call them back before the end of the day.  That at least would be an improvement.
    3. All charges should be made clear before people are asked to sign up. He agreed with me on this and said that would be resolved.
    4. A contract or letter of agreement should be e-mailed to the customer including the chosen key phrases before they are asked to pay.  He said that the full terms of service were on their web site (I can't find them but then maybe I'm not looking in the right place) and they could not give the key phrases as the customer might just take them away and use them without buying their service.  I said this didn't hold water because you have already verbally agreed these key phrases on the phone so they could still do that so putting it in writing would not make any difference to that.  He then said that the other reason was because they could not guarantee the chosen key phrases would be available although 99% of the time they would be, but that if they were not they might have to substitute.  I pointed out that this would mean the customer would not know what they were paying for then, so he replied by saying they could change them if they were not happy of we could issue them a credit note.  I said in such instance you should offer them a full refund.
    5. Refunds should be put back on the credit card.  He said they didn't do that because it would often take up to 10 days for the funds to be clear that way but they were looking at offering a direct bank transfer.  I said you should let the customer decide and if they want it put back on their card you should agree to do that.
    6. The references on their web site don't currently check out.  He said the web site has been rebuilt but they are awaiting authorisation before it can go live.  Funny, I was told that 2 months ago!  Later in the conversation I said it would not take an afternoon simply to re-write the out of date testimonials on the current web site and replace them with current genuine ones.  He agreed that would be done today.  Worth checking.

Andrew Pearson then went on to say that all these points would be raised with the intention of putting them into a re-training course and asked me if they were put in place if I would think it would improve their service.
I said if all those points were put into place the service would be phenomenally better.
He then went on to say that my blog was causing them a problem and losing them custom and would I mind taking it down seeing as how he had promised to address all these issued.
I said that would be entirely at my discretion and I had no plans to do so.
He went on to say that my case was a one off, that it was not simply one error but a whole catalogue of errors and as such would not happen again.  I asked him what he intended to do about all the other people that have had or are having problems with Jump Up Media and he promised that he would sort it all out if they contact him.
He said he thought my blog presented an unbalanced view of their service and that there was no other bad publicity or comments on the internet about Jump Up Media. He also said that people never write articles to say how good a service they get from companies.  I agreed that it generally is only when someone want to complain that they are prepared to write about it but that they themselves were not helping there as their current testimonials on the Jump Up Media web site did not check out.  This is when he agreed to have them updated by the end of the day.
He asked me what else he could say that would convince me to remove this blog.
I replied "Actions speak louder than words"
    He agreed.

but said that Google had been in contact with them as they were concerned that one of their partners was being seen in this bad light and had told them they should get me to remove this blog.  He also said that "this is not a threat but it had been suggested they take legal action but I said it would be better if I just talk to you".
I pointed out that I had just noted the facts and there was nothing slanderous in anything I have said.  Naturally I can't vouch for the authenticity of other peoples comments. I also said that if I did not get any more people commenting on my blog to say they had either bad dealings or had felt they were being trapped by a cold caller from this company then I would assume that things had been put right after a while and remove it but that would take time.
He spent ages trying to convince me to remove this blog giving me 7 days to do so after which they would have to look at other means.  The conversation eventually ended with no agreement by me.

    Latest Update
Monday 16th July 2014  I have just been in contact with Manchester citizen's advice bureau.  You have to go through them in order to be put in touch with their trading Standards dept.  They have advised me to encourage as many people as possible to contact them if they are having difficulties with Jump Up Media or Trading Fast Ltd on tel 08454 040506. I informed her that several people had already been in touch but she could not give me any information on what was being done.  She gave me an address to write to to see if I can get any details under the Freedom of Information Act which I shall do.  I will post any response I get in due course.

    2. Hi Sally,
Your credit card company should have told you that you have the right to roll back the payment if you feel that the vendor has taken too much money. Here in SA you write an affidavit stating the facts such as amounts etc then the credit card company will roll back the payment and should the vendor try to put it through again you can just repeat the whole process. As a vendor taking money without the card being present you are always in danger of the person rolling back the charges so you should be able to make this work for you with no problems. I got caught recently with a company selling advertising space and all sorts of promises were made as to results and needless to say have not received a single enquiry - also a UK based business with very aggressive phone selling techniques!

    3. Hi Christine,
I think the credit card company are being very helpful, if the cheque does arrive than I would need to take it any further...finger's crossed. If not, and I'm giving them until Monday, I will ring the cc company back and activate the complaint with them so they can investigate it. They will have my letter in the men time which will probably be enough to get things started in any case. I have also written a very long letter to Google UK that I am keeping on file in case I need it. I'm sure Google won't want to be affiliated with a company that behaves like this. Jump Up Media brandish the 'Google Approved Partners' logo on their web site.

You're welcome. 'Fore warned' is 'fore armed' as they say here. It might not be the whole company that is employing sharp selling techniques, it might just be the odd individual keep to get his quotas up but if I had stuck to my original ruling of not entertaining cold caller of any sort I would not have got into this mess in the first place.

But if not the creditcard company should sort things out. I bet they have a large file building on this company. regards Marcus

    10. Hi Sally,

Thanks for posting your experience with Jump Up. Like Marcus I almost committed myself to this too - the guy on the phone had a relentless sales pitch and when I said that I wanted time to think about it as I was feeling pressured into it he laughed at me and implied I was stupid not to be jumping at the chance to hand over money to him. Not a pleasant experience! So glad I saw your post and happy to hear you eventually got your money back. Best Wishes, Helen

    11. Hi this company just cold-called me too claiming to give me a first page ranking for google adwords as an Animator. Similar pitch but claimIng 'it could be free for free mate' after admitting it was a paid search service!? When I questioned this the caller rang off abruptly. I think the old adage if it sounds to good to be true it probably is applies here.

    12. Hi Sally, I think I have been had too. I never buy from phone calls ever. But this man was so charming and very easy on the ear. The price was £99 which I actually thought was quite expensive for 31 days so I certainly didn't think it was too good to be true. Like you it went up to £130 with Vat but they didn't send my invoice to check everything or any terms and conditions. I have emailed several times asking for them as its coming closer to my 31days deadline. Yesterday I threatend to cancel if I didn't hear back. So today I had a phone call from A.W. Again very charming saying they had sent them it must be Royal mails fault. But the email he said they had sent as a welcome to Google, only had a coded message and no PDF files attached. Anyway to cut a long story short. I eventually read the terms and conditions today which he did send as an attachment this morning. But I am not at all happy and have sent a letter cancelling the agreement because it is within in the first 30 days and according to their terms and conditions I am within my rights to do so. Unfortunatly I didn't read your article until I was searching for the company address to send my letter. I then did search Google partners and if you just type jumpupmedia in google partners it does come up as "Talking fast LTD" so they are partners. But I am still not convinced. I won't get my money back. but have learnt a valuable lesson, stick to not buying from phone calls no matter how it sounds.

    13. Hi Ann

I'm sorry to read that you were caught and didn't find this blog earlier. Did you get first place ranking on your chosen key words? If not, keep phoning and writing to them. If you hassle them enough they might agree to refund your money as they did mine. Did you send your letter by recorded delivery so they can't claim they didn't get it? Also, make sure you contact your credit card company to tell them that no further payments to this company are authorised.
Feel free to update your progress on this blog if you wish so that maybe more people will come across it and be warned before they get caught.

    14. Hi Sally, Yes, although I was told I could have 6 chosen Key words because like you I don't pay VAT. But one only appeared in the last few days and it wasn't always there. I used to check every day and when I couldn't see them I was told that if I kept looking in Google, Google would think I wasn't happy with the results and keep looking for other sites, I'm not convinced about that everyone elses came up each time.
I sent my letter recorded delivery and informed the bank.
They are quick of the mark when it comes to closing it down though. All have gone now and I should still have until the 9th September paid for.

    15. Hi Ann
Another thing you could try is to write a letter to Google. Unfortunately that is the only way you can contact them but it would carry more weight than an e-mail anyway. I penned one but as I got paid out I never actually sent it. They think they should know the kind of game their 'Certified partner' is running.

    17. THANK YOU Sally!!! I'm an illustrator/airbrush artist and 'Jump UP' just called me... I gotta say, they sounded convincing at first! I asked them to email me the details to my business account, cos I didn't trust them (never do trust cold-callers), and...surprise, NO email has been sent! And there are no prices on their website either! It's a scam, it has to be. No genuine company would contact people and give a time limit for offers like that. Very dodgy. Glad I typed into Google and found your story! Thanks again for preventing others from being taken in by a very genuine-sounding company. Rich xxx

    20. Oh and if you are having problems with this company Andrew Pearson the operations Manager at jump Up Media said he will endeavour to resolve any issues if you contact him.

      ReplyDelete
    21. I would keep it up, as at least you've revised it to show they're responding. Hopefully it's just one rogue salesman or so. My fellow board artist will still be getting in touch with them as far as I know, to find out why his name was being used in conjunction with the sales.

They also need to be transparent from the off what they're selling and who they are. When I got my call I thought it was for a job and had to wheedle it out of the salesman what it was!

      ReplyDelete
    22. AP assured me it was a one off sales guy who was new to the job and didn't understand company policy. apparently he had contacted a number of potential clients in this way. I was told he had now been released from the company. Lets hope that is an end to it. Time will tell.

    23. I've just noticed they have updated their testimonial page as promised but there are only 3 and they are very vague. Still, it's not easy getting reviews out of people even when they are happy with what you do so I won't cast any shadows on the company for that.

    24. Hi, I was quoted £99 + VAT to advertise on Google & £129 + VAT to advertise on all search engines. I paid the latter and I was nowhere to be found on any other search engine apart from Google.
I was also promised 1st page ranking on my 5 key phrases, some days I wasn't on 1st/2nd or 3rd page, I didn't go further.
I tried to speke to Paul McCann (Google accounts Manager) on a number of occations but could never speke to him.
The only way I could contact him was by email.
To cut a long story short, He emailed me and said their customer services department will be in contact within the next 48 hours. That has come and gone and no contact.

I have noticed the change on testimonials page, they don't look any more genuine than the previous ones.

Perhaps if people aren't happy with this company, they should report a complaint against this company to google as they are indeed a certified partner (there is a link to complain).
People should contact H. M. Customs & Exercise if they have been illegally charged VAT (if someone has been charged more than quoted or for something they haven't got then they have paid VAT on that).

I will add more if and when I get a response from them

    25. Hi Martin
Sorry you are having such problems. Have you tried contacting Andrew Pearson at Jump Up Media as he said he would sort out any further problems such as this.

I think the best way to contact Google it to write to them. I did use their complaints link myself at the time but I didn't get a response.

As for the VAT, I don't think there is any suggestion they are charging it illegally.

    26. Hi Sally
      Further to my message above:
I've just had a phone call from Andrew Woodhouse from Jumpupmedia at 5:10pm (on a Friday afternoon).

He said they had problems with their Google ads and he says I wasn't on 1st page for 4 days & 16 hours, with that he is extending my advertising for 7 days to make up for it.

The issue with adverts not being on all other search engines, again he admitted that I should have been on them and will deduct the £30 + VAT extra that I paid for this service from my next payment.
He also said he will not charge for advertising on the other search engines as a gesture of good will.

So next month I will be charged £69 + VAT for 5 key phrases on Google and all other search engines and the following months just £99 + VAT (per month).

I have asked for him to put it in an email which he said he will but it could be Monday morning which is acceptable given it was gone 5pm when he phoned and we chatted for 13 minutes.

This is not the 1st company I have used, there are some sharks out there which promise allsorts so if he delivers what he says I'll be more than happy.
He also said I should contact him if I have any other problems

I will update when or if I get this email.

    28. Hi Sally, I have been busy since my last update when I cancelled my subscription and all my adverts were taken off google by Jump up media even though I had paid until the 9th September. I just happen to look yesterday and some of them had been put back on. I don't know how long they have been there because like I said I haven't looked. May be they are listening to the complaints and things will improve for new clients.

    29. Thank you for post. They rang me yesterday and like yourself, their offer was very appealing. I asked for an email to be sent with a breakdown of their offer, which they weren't inclined on doing so but gave in.

No email has been received but I think that if it had, I would have gone down the same path as yourself. Thank you for sharing your story.

    30. hi, I am having a problem with this company also, starting last Monday the 20th September, I had a call from someone called lewis James, who said nothing about jump up media, and said he worked on behalf of Google, I have just started a hair and beauty business I am a single mum and do not have credit cards and just an income of tax credits, which isn't very much, I so wanted to promote my business, but its very quiet at the moment, anyway he started saying he would get my website on the first page of Google, within hrs., I had no reason to disbelieve him, I asked how much he said £129 I thought this was a bit high, but said OK, I thought if he worked for Google why would he lie, any way I gave over my card details, then he went away he cam back and said that's £166, vat plus £10 registration fee to Google, there was no mention of this, anyway he gave me a ref code but there was no mention of an invoice nothing I have had no confirmation of my account, when he finished he said thank you for opening an account with jump up media, that's the first I heard of this company right at the end of the call. I have been totally ripped off, I have no more money to do any more advertising now, I even thought I would give the whole thing up. I have been trying to get a refund since but, but I do not get any joy,the first day I tried and lewis said that how could he have been Google he would have an american accent, and that not to worry I would be on the first page in 48 hrs. well i can tell you i checked in 48 hrs there was no website on 1st 2nd 3rd or 4th pages, i am so upset and angry, i keep ringing to speak to a manager to either be cut off, put on hold for too long, or told that they are in a meeting and will call back, I cant even call out to these numbers on my phone, I have to use a friends and its costing me money, I've written letters and sent e-mails as well, they have published the 5 key phrases, but they aren't even in the right area. so they haven't done what they said they would do, I just want my money back, anyone got any ideas of how I can get it back.

    31. If I were you I would write a letter to Google as this company is a Google Certified Partner. I would also tell my credit card company to make sure they know not to allow any further payments to Jump Up Media or Talking Fast Ltd. Send another letter to Jump Up Media telling them what you have done and send this letter by recorded delivery.

    32. hi sally can you remove the post that I made on the 26Th September at 18.41, please, as the matter has been resolved, and I am, more than happy with the outcome, and how the matter has been dealt with thank you.

      ReplyDelete
    33. Glad it has been resolved to your satisfaction. I think I'll leave the post though as it shows that the company has settled your issues and so presents a more balanced view in their favour. It would be good to know the process you went through to get your matter resolved as this may help others.

    34. I am surprised to read this blog as I have been with Jump Up Media for about 14 months now and it has been fantastic. This does concern me a bit reading this however, in general I see my advert as they state it should be. I felt I should post this note as a more balanced view as it seems a lot of people are only providing a negative view but in my experience, I can offer a positive one. I hope this helps some people.

    36. Hi, last year I was ripped off with this exact pitch by a company called neu era marketing. Shortly after being stucked in and paying up I knew I'd been conned! I got my money back from the credit card company and thought that was the end of that. Until this morning when I was contacted by the very same person I'll call him cj who called from neu era but this time from a company called jump up media with the same speech!!!! Interestingly when looking back at my records the telephone number is only the last digit different from the neu era marketing number!! When I mentioned neu era to cj he was quite aggressive and then hung up! Please don't go with this company or any other that contact you via phone. They got my number from gum tree, lesson learnt for me. If you do decide to go ahead please put it on a credit card not debit card so you are covered!

    37. Hi,

They’re still doing this, very similar situation with me. I wasn’t sure this was the correct type of marketing for my company but was told it would definitely work, they guaranteed it would bring in more business and I could have my money back at the end of the 30 Days if it didn’t. Asked for it in writing, got an e-mail with no guarantee mentioned. I then questioned this and was told all calls are recorded if there is any problem. Some time later I received a welcome letter with terms and conditions, one of which states ’This agreement supersedes all prior agreements…..etc….., whether written or oral’. I called them saying I didn’t agree to the terms as there was no mention of a guarantee and I wanted a refund. I was passed to Callum (the sales guy) who denied saying I could get a refund if it didn’t work and would not get a refund. After a lengthy discussion I was told I would get a call from Andrew Woodhouse, at this point I asked for the campaign to be suspended until this was sorted out. The call back was meant to be last Monday 10/10/11 and I am still waiting (17/10/11). I have called numerous times over the week and been given various excuses. I have currently been put on hold for 58 minutes!!! I would not advise using this company. I’m going to keep trying to get a refund.

    40. Hi All; My Company was cold called by Jump Up Media last week; the Sales man Jamal at first claimed they were from Google! they relentlessly tried to sell me a 1 year Guaranteed Google Uk package that they SAID Our Company website IS GUARANTEED to be on the 1st Page of google Uk WITHIN 48 HRS! and stated that the deal is only availble for 2 hours! I said i can't make a quick decision like this without researching your Company; so i put the phone down; I was constantly called back even after ignoring the calls! I had to answer to tell them i wasn't intrested and thats when the extremely hard sales started again; "it's guaranteed The sales team repeated saying"; Your website will definately be on the very top of 1st Page of Google Uk! I said i need to think about this as at work and im very busy! yet again relentless false promises and guarantees. I was told to hold and was put through to a Manager called Lewis James who again sold the product very hard and stated its risk free and guaranteed or your money back! I felt very pressured and eventually they cracked me. Our website is NOT ON ANY PAGES OF GOOGLE LET ALONE PAGE 1 AS GUARANTEED! My friends and family have typed in our key phrase on google uk and our WEBSITE IS NOT LISTED ON ANY PAGE OF GOOGLE UK! We are absolutelty disgusted and extremely upset with Jump Up Media's Mis-selling and devious selling tactics to gain Hard Earned money from Innocent Business people across the Country. We are in the process of reporting this company to ALL the relevant authorities AND WILL LEAVE NO STONE UNTURNED!. Please note that you will find that your website will work on google only on your OWN COMPUTER because it picks up your IP address this is a con. dont listen to a word the sales team say. BEWARE AND DONT PAY ANY MONEY OVER

    41. Very enlightening blog! I was called yesterday by Jump-Up but it seemed suspicious to me that a 'genuine' company would feel the need to use such aggressive sales banter and to be so pushy on the phone. The guy barely stopped for breath and was rushing me to give him my credit card details. I told him I couldn't sign up to anything without researching the company first and he made it clear there would be no option for me to think about it and get back to them, as I would miss the deal!

Any decent sales company would give you thinking time, so I ran a mile. Reading this blog and the comments, very relieved I walked away.

    42. Well done Emma. It seems they are getting more aggressive in their tactics. That could be desperation or over confidence. Either way, I'm glad I kept this blog going.

I was also suckered in with false promises (3 months for £99 - turned out to be £104 for 1 month). What address do i need to send my letter to so i make sure no more money is taken from my account?

    48. Please don't ever take this blog down!

I had a call from these people today! After saying no, I wasn't interested and that I thought it was a scam, the guy talking to me, who initially told me his name was "Dave", then started getting very offensive!

I then asked for his Surname, and he told me "Jones" (How convenient - it was going to either be that or "smith") - I repeated it back with his first name "Dave Jones" - He then sharply told me it was actually "David Jones". I don't believe for one minute that his name was Dave/David, as he first called me by my first name (Jon), and then started calling me Dave.

After a while, after trying to get him to admit that he wasn't actually working alongside Google, and that I didn't want to give him my bank details, he told me to stand up and wobble my head from side to side, then to bang my head against the wall and then to eat a vindaloo to make it all go in to my head! Firstly, I'm not even Asian/Indian, So his racist comments actually didn't mean anything towards me, and secondly, I questioned the "corporate line" and asked if he was told to talk to potential customers like that?

All in all - steer well clear of this company! Not only, rude and unprofessional, but huge scammers in my eyes!

      ReplyDelete
    49. That is in-excuseable, however, I can't say they were ever rude to me. If they had been I would have found it much easier to back out at the start. Maybe they are getting desparate or perhaps that was just a bad apple?
Don't worry. I've no plan to remove this blog.

    51. Oh how I wish I'd seen this before! The same CJ caught me out too, to the tune of over £200 so far; whether they're genuine or not I don't know, but the service they offer isn't worth a tenth of the price they ask for it, given that all websites will already have keywords; all your're getting from JumpUp is an advert on a site no one's going to find unless they type in keywords that are already on your website! I'm writing to Google - JumpUp pretended they were Google when they called me, and I feel I've been totally deceived.

    52. Hi, i'm panicking a bit having seen this blog. Last Tuesday i committed to a yearly package with Jump Up Media.

What i was wondering though is whether i've got a watertight way out as they state you have a 14 day cancellation policy as part of the agreement, and as long as i send them a registered letter cancelling my arrangement with them that they are bound to honour this?

Sounds like some people have had a mixed response of the ease when trying to cancel.

      Cheers

      ReplyDelete
    53. If you are worried then send the letter as instructed. If you are paying by credit card you can ring them and tell them not to authorise any more payments. Same with your bank if it is via DD.

    55. I've just run a search on a separate PC through anonymouse.org using Google and Yahoo for Jump Up Media and this blog is still on page one near the top. I don't see any reason to buy the domain name and in any case that would mean changing the address of this blog which would not serve my purpose at all. It will stay where it is and cost me nothing. The best way to keep it on top is for people to keep using the name Jump Up Media and or Talking Fast Ltd in their comments.

    56. Hi I posted on the 13th of Nov, when i was panicking about wanting to invoke my cancellation. Thought would give it 2 more days, but Jump Up Media have continued to fail to deliver and mislead me, try to change or renage on previously made agreements. I've noted all the relevant details and facts (and may articulate further, i'll see how i get on trying to cancel. It reflects very badly on them though) and I'm composing my cancellation letter to them. But just a thought, i receive calls from a London number for them, so could i just check do you know if the Manchester address to cancel too is their head office and the appropriate address. I'll be calling and asking them in the morning too for the address, but bit worried they might also try to mislead me with that too.

      ReplyDelete
    57. I only have the one address for them and it is Jump Up Media
      Ashworth House
      175 Cross Street
      Manchester
      M33 7JQ
That is the address I wrote to when I made my cancellation. I sent it via recorded delivery which I recommend you do too.

      ReplyDelete
    58. Thanks for the address, i was given a different one; Clarendon House, 81 Mosley St, Manchester, M2 3LQ. Had an absolute shocker this morning, called them and tried to cancel / ask for refund, they explained that as the nature of the transaction is business to business they are not actually obliged to give a refund, even within 14 days. I'm guessing they only record certain calls, and this morning must be one of those as person i deal with had his business head on, saying all the right things, quoting things said before, manouevering around all the other things has said in other conversations (that i'm guessing weren't recorded) absolutely abysmal. Basically said you can cancel but not necessarily get a refund. Also spoke to consumer helpline they also said the 14 day cancellation agreement doesn't apply to giving a refund business to business. Do business with these people at your peril. I'm actually considering lesser of two evils might be that leaving my ad up rather than cancelling and potentially not getting money back. Mind you wouldn't be surprised if the ad doesn't stay up either, they also quote that if you that if you keep checking or check too much the advert gets removed. Basically they think they have you and your money in their pocket. And apparently the 48 hour guarentee to getting your ad up actually means in their terms 48 working hours, not business hours, but working hours - 5 or 6 days i guess. Horrible.

      ReplyDelete
    59. That's right. Their terms and conditions are so vague that they can be interpreted many ways and I'm sure that is deliberate. It really needs something like BBC Watchdog to get involved with this to make it more public and prevent people signing up with this company in the first place.

      ReplyDelete
    60. Hi, the guy i've been speaking with is named Lewis, possibly same same Lewis mentioned in an earlier post, apparently a manager. Hello Lewis i'm sure you read this. He says that his company doesn't usually get many complaints. Ha. I've been carefully documenting everything that's been said to date with this guy and might write a fuller account or upload it somewhere as well so other people know what to look out for. Already spoken with trading standards twice. I've going to check the legality of their terms and conditions - how on Earth can they say that what they send you a week later supercedes 'all previous agreements' Thinking of contacting other consumer groups previously mentioned and more. I'm sure they must pick and choose which calls they must monitor as say one thing one day and something else the next. Got him on his mobile this morning and when i said if i wrote in and cancelled would i get a refund he said 'yes' i actually got him to say that! Then when spoke shortly later and recording must be on was much more elusive. Also renaged on their agreement for my Key phrase too - i chose one last week that spoke with him numerous times about since and had him confirm several times over that was the one they would use, then he called on Monday and said if i actually wanted to use that key phrase i'd actually need to pay more money and they uploaded a substitute key phrase instead! What i'm wondering though, is if they do this a lot, then why aren't more people complaining - i would have thought this blog would be overflowing. And if Andrew Woodhouse operations manager or whoever he is is reading, hope you are enjoying this. Hope the big wigs at Google are reading this too, you're 'certified partners' reflect very badly on you. Renage on Key phrase 8 days after agreeing it and after having numerous conversations regards using that phrase and then want more money if i want to use it. Not to mention they tell you at the start you can have whatever key phrase you want. I'm likely going to post some details on a consumer forum about how they have behaved with me, also.

    61. Hi,

I replied to a job ad for a company called Project Educate who claim to be a Recruitment company who recruit home based consultants. After giving up work to care for my mother who was terminally ill with cancer i thought this was a good opportunity to get back involved with the industry. I made a call to the lady who posted the add and had a good chat. See then asked me to fill a form in on their website. After doing this is stated they would only call me back on a landline, however i still put my mobile on. Today i received a call from 0207 1839633 six times on finally answering it, it was Jump Media based in Manchester yet with a London number !!!! Project Educate's number is 0207 1833587 which to me implies they are in cahoots. Just thought i'd put this on incase anyone else encounters it.

    62. Hi Anonymous and Dan. I'll answer Anonymous first.
Yes, there probably are loads of people out there that have been left in the same or a similar position by Jump Up Media but I don't find it really that surprising they haven't all ended up here. The reason is partly due to the human psyche and partly due to British mentality. We Brits don't generally complain, we just put up with stuff and make a mental note not to go there again. Add that to the fact that no one really likes to think they have been made a fool of. Many people, once the penny drops, will just want to hide away and try and forget about it rather than making themselves public even if it is by way of an anonymous comment. some people won't even want to dig and find out if they have been scammed in the first place preferring instead to live in ignorance. I am speaking in general terms here and not specifically in relation to anything Jump up Media may have done.
As far as my dealings with this company go, I felt so stupid when I realised what I had got myself into. Having realised that I was an idiot I knew I had two choices, I either hid myself away and put it down to experience or I could try and get even. The second option had more appeal even if it meant parading a banner to say what a fool I had been. Most people are not prepared to go that far which makes it easy for companies to take money off them and get away with it.

Now to get to Dan's comment. I'm not sure you can really say the two companies are linked because they both share the same area code. It does seem a bit strange that Jump Up Media are using a London based phone number but that in itself is not enough to link the two companies. It is the last four numbers that are unique to each customer as the first 7 are all area codes. Still, worth bearing in mind.

    63. Well done Sally! For challenging this company Jump Up Media. This company is based in Manchester.I am very embarrassed to mention that i was offered a job by this company.I left only after a few days of starting due to poor training and support by management. And must importantly i didnt agree with the lies they told to customers, bullying their way ( knows as hard sell) lack of customer service and more sucking up to customers to get credit card details and mis-selling the product with ridiculous stupid prices. They are a complete scam, i wouldnt recommend anyone to work for them or even buy from them. The Spainish Sales Operation team are based within the same office as the UK team. CJ aka Calum Jones aka Calum Beckett is one of the top UK Sales Operators for Jump up Media. He tells alot of lies and stories to get you to give credit card details and for some customers as put details through twice to boost his commission.I think it is a cheat and this company dont understand the meaning of good customer service.I dont believe that (Andrew Pearson) whoever he, story of how B had been addressed to a training course and CJ being "let go" to be a complete lie, just to cover there backs from furthur compliant. Jump up Media want people like CJ to work for them as it is making money for the company. Management dont care what is said just as long as credit cards are given and payments go through. Thanks to a fast and assertive customer like Sally, it shows that they will get caught out sooner than later and that con companies like Jump up Media and other companies with unexperienced cold callers- who dont understand the importance of avoiding mis-selling a product and not sticking to terms and conditions of a contract, should not be able to get away with it. My advice to all business is to stay clear of this company, if they call you put the phone down, it would be the best decision you made. Google adwords and other advertising can be done simply by yourself, just take more time to research about it or even find out if you have a friend or family who knows about it. You will be very surprised at how much much much cheaper it will be for you and more money in your pocket for your business. There are lots of companies like Jump up Media who have yes Jumped on the band wagon to rip businesses off, just dont be fooled by any of them.

I have informed Watchdog again about this issue but not told them as yet who you are. Hopefully we might now get their attention. Even so, the more victims that keep reporting this to BBC Watchdog the better the chance they will run with it.

    70. Sally, please keep this blog alive!!! Jump up media has called me today. The sales person, Callum Jones was very polite and couldn't stop talking! He was selling the service really hard! I kept on asking for written confirmation, so he sent me an email with the offer ended today. He called me back and kept on insisting to give him my debit card details, I replied back via email giving him my postal address in order to have everything in writing. I finally gave in, after a lot of pressure, and gave him my card details. He passed me to an account person, Andrew Woodhouse, that he wanted to confirm everything and proceed with the payment.During that time, I was searchning over the internet to find if this company is legitimate and I found your blog. I immediately told him that I would like to stop the process and not to go through with this because i need to have everything in writing and signed. he passed me again to Callum and I explained that my partner and I did not wish to continue with this because we need to have everything in writing and not to make payments over the phone. He was trying to convince me and he start being rude by saying things like "why you don't want to be in one of the biggest search engine in the world" and many similar things. When I refused politely to continue with this because I cannot trust them and I needed to search this company further, he said that they had my details anyway!!!! I immediately called my bank and cancelled my debit card. My bank assured me that now my money was safe and told me not to trust any company over the phone. Please be very aware. Do you think that I am safe now? Sally, thank you so much!

      ReplyDelete
    71. Hi Anonymous
Yes, I think you are safe now. As long as your bank knows not to process anything from these people you should be fine. They cannot legally put through any unauthorised transactions.

    72. Hi I have signed up to a package and paid them £600 for 3 months now for the last 2 days my site does not come up and I have called them now so they should call me back, I do have family in Manchester and can ask them to go their office, any suggestions on whether I can get a refund??? I have asked my bank to cancel any further payments......any ideas

      ReplyDelete
    73. You should ask for a full refund as that is what you are entitled to. If they don't agree go to trading standards. I believe there are a few complaints already with the Manchester Trading Standards office.

      ReplyDelete
    74. There are obviously many of us who have fallen for this; I will be writing to Manchester Trading Standards too. Wrote to Google head office (UK)a couple of weeks ago: no reply at all. It doesn't seem to trouble them that this company is trashing their reputation - or to be charitable, they may still be looking into it. But don't let up on Jump Up!

    77. This blog is a great resource, Sally, thank you. I signed up with Jump Up Media on Friday afternoon (9 Dec 2011)with Lewis, then waited for my confirmation email which didn't arrive, I waited for my account manager to ring me this morning (Monday) which didn't happen either. So I rang up at 3:30pm today and spoke to Andrew Woodhouse, Manager in Customer Services, and insisted on a refund. He said I shouldn't have been promised a follow-up email and when I asked what the correct procedure was he went through it carefully, step by step. He was polite, and willing to discuss the situation with me, the phone call took around 45 minutes. I was adamant that I have paid for but received no service from the company yet. I explained that my key phrases are not yet sorted out and the plan was for me to discuss them with my allocated account manager prior to my ads going live. Although he offered me an opportunity to proceed and if I wasn't happy in 2 weeks he would then give me a full refund, I explained clearly that I am not interested in dealing with Jump Up Media as I have lost all faith and trust in the company, and I would like a full refund. Andrew said that he would listen to the recorded conversation and if the conversation actually took place as I said then I will get a refund, although he made a reference to some charge I may have incurred when I signed up... I said I am not interested in a partial refund and make that clear, I told him that I will pursue this matter however I need to to get a full refund, which I believe I am entitled to. Andrew was under the impression that it was this blog that has influenced me, but I explained to him that it was the missing email and the missing phone call from the account manager that has put me off - the company has clearly failed to provide any service so far, and I cannot believe that they will act honourably now. Andrew promised to ring me tomorrow before 12:30pm after he has heard the recording. I am hoping he does the right thing and saves me any further stress. I will let you know what happens tomorrow...

    78. Hi Anonymous (12th Dec)
As I am sure you are aware, you may not get the call back as promised but don't let that put you off. I'm sure it won't. Do contact your credit card company or bank depending on how you paid and let them know the situation. also make sure they know not to allow any further transactions on the account by this company.
If you don't get any joy out of Jump Up Media than go to Manchester Trading Standards, they must have quite a file by now.
Good luck and do keep us posted.

    79. Hi Sally. Firstly, thank you for maintaining this blog and to fellow bloggers. My wife was caught out by Jump Up Media with a cold call back in September. We have just received our money back via our credit card company, so 3 months of worry and plenty of costs in terms of time, letters/postage etc. We claimed breach of contract as the cooling off period of 14 days apparently doesn't apply with business to business transactions, even to the self employed it seems. I think the credit card company were happy with the breach of contract angle as J.U.M. took the money (£167) but never sent us any paperwork, e-mail, welcome pack, VAT invoice etc. They never replied to our calls, or responded to our letters including the last one that threatened court action. A letter sent recorded delivery was never signed for. Fortunately, we had one e-mail from their Customer Services Dept. acknowledging recipt of one of my e-mails, so proof together with two 'proof of postage' receipts from the Post Office that we had contacted them. We were quite prepared to sue them but the credit card company refunded us at just the right time. Nasty people this lot, steer well clear.

    80. Hi Anon of 13th Dec. Well done on getting your refund. You offer hope to the rest. Your comment about the VAT invoice makes me wonder if they are actually filing proper VAT returns?

I can't answer that one as that is a matter purely for you. If you do go than keep an open mind, be aware of what you have read here but don't let that alone form the basis of your judgement. Going to an interview is not a commitment to accept a job.

    83. I joined the blog on Monday afternoon when I asked for a refund from Andrew Woodhouse, Customer Service Manager at Jump Up Media. After discussing my dissatisfaction at length with him where I informed him that I had received no service for my money (no paperwork or follow-up call from my allocated account manager), he said he would listen to the recorded call I had with Lewis when I signed up, and he promised me he would call me back on Monday morning (yesterday)before 12:30pm and let me know if I was eligible for a refund. He was as good as his word, which I am very grateful for. Becky contacted me (Customer Services advisor) and said that out of 3 questions they looked at, one was in my favour, and Andrew has authorised a refund for the full amount of £178. I had the choice of a cheque or bank transfer. She sent me an email and as I chose the bank transfer I had to send my bank details in my reply email. Becky kept in touch with me during the afternoon to let me know the accounts dept were dealing with the matter, and when the money had been deposited into my account. She mentioned that Andrew Woodhouse requested that I post the results of my experience with the company on the blog, which is fair enough, so here it is. I must say that I am relieved this is over. The only thing is, it has been a disappointing experience. I was looking forward to being helped by Jump Up Media with promoting my business, now I'm back to square one. However, I will not be such an easy target next time I hear from cold-calling phone salesmen. Thanks again, Sally, for your blog. I'm certain that your blog is instrumental in helping this company to face up to their responsibilities towards dissatisfied customers that are a result of poor business practise.

You can mention it if you like, it won't get anyone into trouble but be prepared to face a barrage of reasons why you shouldn't take any notice of this blog as I'm sure they won't leave it at that. Do let us know how you get on as it is always interesting to hear any new excuses they come up with. What really saddens me is that they have not changed their practise in all this time. Still, at least I'm able to save a few :-)

    92. Hi everybody,

I received a cold call from Jump Up Media, stupidly I gave my bank details for debit card. The offer seemed tempting as I am a student and extra income doesn't hurt!
After doing a bit of research it soon dawned on me that this company was not to be trusted!
Even the businesses featured on THEIR OWN SITE as an advertisement for their services were disgusted at the mention of Jump Up Media. When I asked for a refund I was met with unprofessional and extremely agressive behaviour.
Fortunately my persistence and patience has guarenteed me a refund. Although I am sceptical of this I will wait and pester until i receive my refund!
I have reported these guys to Trading Standards, Google, and BBC Watchdog on behalf of everybody that got scammed.
These people can get viscous, so if you are wanting to cancel/refund then sit tight and stand your ground!

    93. Hi Anonymous 3rd Feb

Good for you for getting them to promise a refund. Make sure you get it though and do keep on at them if they are slow at issuing it. It's always good to hear from people who do manage to get their money refunded as it gives others hope and encourages people not to simply let it drop. Thank you for posting.

    94. Hi Sally,
I too have been had. I never buy anything without researching first, but for some reason I felt compelled to give this a try. It sounded like it could work, plus the man on the phone was very charming. I immediately regretted giving them my credit card info. He never bothered to mention that this service was only good on the google UK site - I live in the US. So no one in my country would even see this! I tried on numerous occasions to contact them to cancel but to no avail. So I simply canceled my credit card so they won't be able to take any more of my money. It was an expensive lesson but one I'll never forget. Thanks for helping to bring this issue to light!

      ReplyDelete
    95. That is really taking the Mick to cold call someone in the US when they don't even operate there. It would appear these guys are getting far too cocky. I don't know anything much about US law but if there is the equivalent of a trading standard authority over there it might be worth bringing this to their attention. Maybe US law can do things UK law fails to achieve.

    97. Hi
I have also had similar problems with Jump Up Media! I got a call from them today saying I was in some monthly renewing contract and that they were trying to get money out of my account. On the phone they promise you the world and that they would call you after the £99 trial period was over to see if you want to renew etc. Now they dont want to use the parts in their contract such as they should send me an invoice a month in advance if they are to collect payments but now thats a small part to them. Dont use this company! complete CON!!! say one thing on the phone and do another on contracts and then call and threaten you with courts etc!!

      ReplyDelete
    98. Hi

I had problems with this company as well, the customer service from most of the staff is hideous. They rush through the sales pitch so fast and will say almost anything to get you signed up.
They failed to mention VAT costs and the fact that you have to write them a letter to say you dont want the service to roll over each month.
Because I failed to write to them (I was told on the phone it automatically canceled after a month)they charged me for another month. In the meantime they called me again and I signed up for another month as I had been happy with the increase in traffic to my site.
I made sure with the salesman on the phone that he knew I had another campaign running already and he assured me it would automatically cancel at the en of the first month so it was ok to take this second campaign

When I realized they had charged me for the second month in my initial campaign with them I rang them and explained that I now had two campaigns running they refused a refund and said they would just roll it on an extra month.

This was fine but I thought I had better write to let them know that I want to cancel this at the end of the two months.

When they received my letter one of their salesmen called me and tried to convince me to stay another month, when I refused he turned really nasty and said 'well you have written to say you want to terminate your contract so I will terminate our service from today' meaning he would take my advert down even though it was paid for for the next nearly 2 months.

      Unbelievable.

      Avoid them at all costs!

    99. Hi from the United States

It looks like I dodged a bullet this morning! I got a call from Jumpup Media telling me they had a top Google spot available for my pet portrait website. He went on to say that my website was one of 4 they were considering giving the spot to. He spent several minutes going over what I would receive for the 99#s. He was very convincing. Fortunately I am quite the skeptic. I also never rush into anything. I told him that I needed more time to think it over and to call me back in a week. He then went on to tell me that a top position rarely comes available and I had to act within the next 30 minutes or it would be given to someone else. I told him to give it to someone else, because I would need more time to think on it. He continued to try to convince me that I was going to lose a great opportunity if I didn't act now and I maintained that I could not make a decision now. After several more minutes of his persuasive talking, I told him that I do not do well under high pressure situations and I NEVER, EVER make a decision when I am in such a situation. He then hung up without another word.

Sally, thank-you for starting this blog. There are so many scams out there and it is good to be able to look up companies and find out what others have to say about them.

    100. I'm a photographer from Barcelona, Spain and received a call from UK (+44) this morning. The guy started speaking with me in perfect Spanish and even talked in Catalan for a while (because I said a word in that language). He said that he worked for Google and he asked me if I ever had thought about using Google Adwords. Of course I did! I even have a coupon that Google sent to me when I added my business to Google Maps... He was very polite and everything sounded very convincing until...

...at some point I asked them to send me an email with all the information because I never pay by phone (I didn't told it to him, just asked for written info). He said that I will receive the bill by mail, so I had to reformulate the question, I just want info not the bill, hold on!. He had to ask to somebody if he would be allowed to send me information, after some "hold on music" he said, you must receive an email right now (uh? weird thing that he must ask for this and spend a minute in the whole process...). So I opened my email while talking with him on the phone, and the first weird thing I noticed is that it's not from Google, and the whole mail sounds like a scam because do not contain clear information at all. That's weird because what I wanted to do is to check the email info, search about it on Google and find out if I can trust them or not,... but they know it, that's why they don't hung up while you're checking your email, and that's why I started to decline everything he said to finally say that I was not interested at all.

And here I am in your blog, thanks for this post. I encourage people to continue to post their experience with these ppl. So there is no doubt that you cannot trust somebody that uses Google to catch your attention and they want you to make a deal in a day or in minutes. And everybody can know how they do it.

    102. Another sorry tale! I won't go in to details of the sales pitch as there are others who have already done that. I hadn't seen this blog, so got caught by Jump Up Media. I paid for a 3 month campaign, it took days to be listed, apparently because Google were doing an audit. I was promised a listing on two further search engines, which have never happened. No invoice or welcome pack with contract etc. Listing then vanished competely.I emailed and called customer service several times, no reply to mail, ring phone. When I eventually got through on the phone, I was promised a call back - of course nothing. After 4 days of calling (on and off of course, I have a business to run!)

I eventually got through to a manager called Oliver, I thought my problem had all been sorted out, got pack by email, an extension to campaign for the missing time and a promise to sort out the other search engines. Listing on Google for 2 days - and yes, you guessed it - vanished again!

I've called, ringing phone, emailed - no reply. I just want my money back, I do not have the time to spend chasing this appalling company - I will not let them keep my money for something they have not, or do not seem capable of delivering. In the meantime, I 've gone back to my previous supplier, who had my listing up within 3 hours (different words of course) - means I have had to spend more money though.

I Tweeted about Jump Up Media dreadful service, warning Twitter users not to use this company - I very much doubt Jump Up will see it though as they don't seem to have used Twitter or their Facebook page for about a year! For a company that is supposed to be on top of using website media - well, it says a lot that they can't even use Twitter and Facebook does it not?

I got caught, I am taking the matter further and will keep you posted - don't you get caught like me!

      ReplyDelete
    103. Hi Linsay

I am sorry you got caught like this and wish you success in getting your money back. What makes me really angry is how this Jump Up Media company seems to be going from strength to strength by conning people. I am also very disappointed that Google hasn't stepped in considering it is their name they are branding about. I'm sure Google doesn't really want to be associated with such bad press.
Do keep us posted on your progress. Good luck.

    107. Being wealthy and owning nice property does not make him a criminal. What is needed is enough victims to actually face up to him and and take their cases to Trading Standards if they don't manage to get their money back first. Being a 'dangerous man' is simply a matter of perception in this case unless you have evidence to prove he has been violent in which case you should take it to the police.

    109. An update:I am not going to use names of those I spoke to as they are probably doing what they are told to do by higher management.

I was eventually called back but missed the call, then the office was closed when I called back 10 mins later! Finally on the Monday I got to talk to someone. Then I had quite a battle - they insisted that my ad was held up because it was being audited by Google, there was no explanation as to why it had appeared for a few days (probably 4 or 5 in almost a month) then vanished. They were adamant I was not going to get my money back, I was adamant I was. I made it clear that I would take the matter further if I did not get a refund that day. Jump Up insisted that they had incurred costs so would not refund me. They also (again) offered to extend my campaign - as it wasn't even up, in my opinion there was nothing to extend! They kept going back to the argument that it was Google who were auditing my ad and it was out of their control - I argued back that my contract was with them not Google.

Now, I have a busy business and I really do not have time to spend on this - I estimate I have spent 3 hours on and off on the phone trying to sort this out. In an effort to end it once and for all I suggested a compromise of giving me back 2 months payment - not really want I wanted but I could see I was getting nowhere. After some consultation with management this was agreed and I got my refund - paid into my bank account within a few hours. It is there!

I do still feel that I have been conned out of about £75 but at least I have got the rest of my money back and more importantly, I have Jump Up Media out of my life!

My advice - never ever pay upfront for anything, however good it sounds. And if you do find yourself in my situation, stick to your guns, I was totally determined I was going to get my money back and made that very very clear.

      ReplyDelete
    110. Well done Linsey and thanks for letting us all know. At least you got the majority of your money back. Shame about the rest but in the end it might well have cost you that in lost earnings trying to fight your corner. 114. This blog saved me too! I got a cold call even though I am on the "Do Not Call" list in the USA. Caught me early and I almost fell for it. Calum Jones AKA CJ was very personable and friendly but relentless. I was "1 of only 3 people in my field (voice-over) selected by Google for this amazing limited time offer" etc. Kept making the deal more attractive and did send me an email supposedly showing how the Google listings would work. After questioning, he told me that he does NOT work on commission and that Google pays him! Would not accept no for an answer, kept repeating "Trust Me," and how 99.7% of customers who accept the offer continue after the initial 31 days. Almost got me to violate my rule of never giving my credit card to a business who calls me unsolicited. While on the phone I searched and found your blog.
Like Mama always said, never trust a man who says "trust me."

    115. This blog saved me! Calum Jones is now calling in the USA, at 7-freakin'-30 in the morning! Very persuasive and almost gave in but saw this blog. CJ did email me the offer where I saw "+ VAT" and "+ $10 activation fee." Presured me for credit/debit card # right then. When asked, he claimed that he did NOT work on commission and that Google paid his check! He said "just trust me" way too many times for me to trust him! Kept repeating how 99.7% of customers renew after the 31 days because they are so thrilled with the results. Added that I could start & stop my 31 days as needed for my schedule, and could delay the launch--but of course I had to pay today. Never answered how Google selected me to be 1 of only 3 people in my field (voice-overs) to get this offer today. He was very skilled at overcoming my objections and almost got me. After about 30 min he said again that he did not understand why I wasn't going with it, and I finally said it was not important that he understand but my answer was no. With a curt "Cheers" he hung up. Caller ID said Unknown Caller and I KNOW better than to answer, it was just too early to think clearly.

From what I can see the registered office is a beaten up shop in Sale, near Manchester. Having once lived in Sale, I knew the area, so I thought I'd check it out on Streetview.

Streetview shows a business called "Optimus Media" (pictures will have now dated). When I did a companies house check, this business was struck off and dissolved. It may or may not be related - but was in the same (web) sector.

Also a search on Talking Fast Ltd, shows a "compulsory strike off" has been suspended in May 2012.

      I'll be steering clear.

(Worth noting - google "Webcheck" and you can pretty much check any ltd company with Companies House)... takes seconds and worth it.

      ReplyDelete
    118. That's really interesting. I did a companies house check last year when they got me but then it all checked out. Good to know that things are gradually moving against them. Perhaps that's why Jump Up Media are now concentrating their efforts on the USA.

    119. I was silly enough to do business with Jump Up Media, their cleverly worded sales spiel led me to believe i was talking to google themselves at first. The salesman then told me they deal with 'all googles page 1 allocations' but after further research this would seem to be a complete fabrication and in fact what they are offering is nothing more than an adwords campaign anyone can set up for a fraction of their £99 plus VAT and a 'google activation fee'. The salesman hounded me for 2 days to fill his 'exclusive allocation' however when i wanted to contact their customer service dept in order to cancel my service with them they were rather elusive to say the least, telling me they will call me back asap on numerous occasions. Avoid dealing with this lot at all costs, save yourself a lot of money and just set up your own campaign with google directly.

    120. I've just had them on the phone. I won't go through the pitch, since it's all been said before. CJ was very charming, very fast, relentless!! I'd say your blog might have had some effect, since they are now up front about VAT and give out their phone number and postal address without being asked. I never, ever, give my card details over the phone and said that I'd like to look in to the whole idea, and get back to them if I thought it would be useful to me. They weren't going to let me - CJ pulled a manager in as back-up. At this point I said I was getting annoyed by the high-pressure approach and that the answer was no. They gave up then, abruptly and fairly graciously so, again, complaints on customer service may be getting through. Having looked into what they do, I see that it's just giving them money for what you can do yourself with Google Adwords. I'm interested to see that many of those who've written on this blog seem to be sole traders or microbusinesses - who might be unaware that you don't have to pay through the nose for this. And I'm sure that's deliberate targeting.

      ReplyDelete
    121. Hi June
Thanks for your comment. I am sure you are right in that they target their 'potential customers' carefully. Small, one-man-band businesses are their bread and butter because they generally get to speak to the person who is responsible for making all the decisions so they are less likely to defer to someone else. It's much easier to think logically about these offers once you have come off of the phone which is why they don't like to let people go before they have their credit card details.

    122. Our company also had a close shave with Jump Up Media today. We decided to check them out before committing and found on this website,

      http://www.companiesintheuk.co.uk/ltd/talkingfast

"Active - Proposal to Strike off as of 02 May 12"

    123. thank you. Someone already mentioned this on 15th May. It only means they are late in returning their company tax returns. If you look at the web site again you will see they went through this last November also and the action was discontinued probably after filing them late. Basically, it means very little at this stage.

      ReplyDelete
    124. Well so far so good, I'm still in the top 3 and Paul McCann does seem to communicate regularly. Sadly I've had no extra business, but it may be the business I'm in.

      ReplyDelete
    125. Have you tried checking your position from someone else's PC? The only reason I say this is because Google remembers what you were searching for last time you entered any particular search term and displays the results accordingly. If you make the search from a different IP address it won't know it's you so will give a more accurate result.

    127. I found this blog too late. We had absolutely the same problems as Sally described in her article. So one year on and they still did not solve their problems - starting from inability to provide invoice and finishing with all other issues.

      ReplyDelete
    128. Wish I had read this before I agreed to their promotion. Jump-Up media only ever provided the first months report – which was a complete fabrication as my stats package on the web site showed the results were a fraction of the ‘report’ they sent. I should add the report was not a formal report but rather someone typing figures in an email.
When I asked for reports for months 2 and 3 and in a proper format along with substantiation of where the figures came from they went to ground and would not return my emails. It seems their customer service department is only a ‘pretend’ service!

Is there any way to raise a complaint to Google do you know?

      ReplyDelete
    129. Hi Charlotte

It's certainly worth writing to Google but I suspect they will wash their hands of it as they are no longer a trading partner. Trading standards in Manchester would also be a good one to write to. I would also copy the letters to Jump Up Media and add a request for a full refund. Throw your weight around as much as possible to make them see you are not just going to roll over and accept your losses. There are easier fish for them to fry so paying out to you in the hope of a quiet life is a cheap option. It worked for me but I did have to keep at it for a while.
Good luck and let us know how you fair.

sorry to hear you have been caught but you are not alone as you have seen from this blog. All I can suggest is that you follow the advice here about stopping any further transactions with your bank or credit card and also by recorded delivery letter to Jump Up Media. getting your money back will be harder but you will just have to keep pushing them as I did.
      Hope this helps, good luck.

    135. I can't believe I've fallen for this, I'm normally so careful with choosing who I pay money to. I'm awaiting a phone call from Andrew Woodhouse to tell me if I'm eligible for a refund of £100. Jump Up Media designed me a website (Paul McCann) and let it go live when it wasn't finished. I phoned them to complain about it and also the fact that my name didn't appear as the domain name but 'Jump UP Media' instead, and Becky said she would request that my website is finished, taken off the web until it is finished and use my name as the domain name. 4 weeks later none of the above has been done. THIS COMPANY IS NOT PROFESSIONAL - DO NOT EVER DEAL WITH THEM!!! Thanks Sally for allowing me to share my experience, I hope eventually this company is named and shamed.

I am so sorry to hear your tale. Don't be surprised if Andrew Woodhouse forgets to phone you. You will need to be proactive and keep chasing them until they are sick of you. I think that is the only way to get anywhere with these guys. Do take the case to trading standards in the mean time and feel free to direct Trading Standards to this web site.
I wish you luck and would love to hear back from you as and when you have any updates, positive or otherwise.

Thank you for this blog. I had a call from them today (Barry McIntyre). I was almost caught, even though the price has now gone to £292 for 6 months, but I decided not to give my card details over the phone before researching them. It was only when I rang back and the phone was answered as Jump Up Media that alarm bells rang, so I searched for them and found your blog.
Needless to say I won't be responding to the 4 missed calls I have had in the past half hour from 02071839633!

    141. Just had a call from Jump up Media promising to promote one of our sites to a top four position in google results for two search terms of our choice. The story was that google had contacted them - as a partner - with an 'allocation' of a place on the page and we were 'one of four eligible companies'. I know enough about search and google to understand it doesn't work like this, and eventually got their very 'assertive' salesman off the phone. Searched for 'Jump up Media comments' on google and this blog discussion came up first! This at least shows that google works how it says, and not how 'Jump up media' claims: ranking in results is according to the online audience's use and response to search results, and can't be manipulated in some mysterious way. (Otherwise, presumably, Jumpup media would have successfully promoted its own site to number one position for the search term ‘Jumpup Media comments’, rather than see this page, and its expanding catalogue of very negative comments ascend above its own homepage?).

      ReplyDelete
    142. I see they are actually advertising themselves as "Google Marketing Experts" on the web. I really can't understand why Google lets them get away with this.

    143. I had a call from CJ today and fell for the scam like many others have, mainly because of the opening line of being from 'Google' when actually Jumpup Media are nothing to do with Google.
I instantly realised my mistake and promptly cancelled my debit card (which is a pain) but worth it, thanks to reading this blog. I also reported the scam to my bank.
What followed about 20mins later was a barrage of calls (from both the Manchester number and a London number. Eventually CJ called on his mobile and I answered. I told him I'd changed my mind and he reduced the cost to £49 instead of £99. I stuck to my guns and said I couldn't afford it and he gave up on me.

Manchester number is 01619737979 and London number is 02071839633. The calls were every minute for about 5/10 mins on and off. As I didn't answer the London number I am not 100% sure of course that there is a link but having done a google search on this number there seems to be connection to this scam.

Thank you again for this blog. You saved me £124.80 today and further headaches down the road.

    146. Thank you, thank you, thank you! They're still at it!
My wife fell for their pressure selling technique just before xmas had £118.80 debited from her credit card. She's asked the credit card company for a refund and to block any further debits to this company. She's attempted to contact them by email and phone but without success. She's now sending them a letter by recorded delivery. Regards: PL

    151. I've received a call today. The same cold call fast selling and saying the payment should be using credit card over the phone as fast as the call arrive. I said why: Such technology company, Google Partner'ed as he said, have a so low quality site? don't use Google Wallet for payment or PayPal? Have a SPAM look email? I'll not ignore this warning. This only can be fake. I would pay if they change at least the payment option for PayPal. That way PayPal could take care if it was a fraud and I would feel a lot more protected. I only can believe that this is a SCAM. They do nothing to make me believe different.

    152. Hi Sally,
Thanks for your blog... Just took a call from this company today. I had a very similar experience with a company called NEM, claiming to offer the similar google advertising campaign, which ended with me feeling like I had been scammed. They offered a similar deal and again didn't mention vat. They also gave me a link to the google search engine, which they said would show my advert without me affecting the 'stats'. Interestingly, every time we checked it online without using their link it never showed up....there was always some excuse about google site not working and they had been experiences crashes on the adverts so offered to keep extending the campaign. We finally got sick of it and requested a refund, which they said needed to be made in writing... We wrote and never heard back.. Since this company sounds quite similar, definitely going to give a miss!

    153. My husband got a call last week from these guys. Terrible sales technique, but he wanted to give it a try £166! When he complained about their service of not providing the key phrases within 48 hours, he was told it was 48 working hours - being - 5 days!!!! My husband shouted down the phone at the man and asked to be transferred to a manager. He said he was the manager and the only person above him was a CEO and it wasn't ideal to be talking with the CEO. What a load of rubbish! I think we are going to end up with loads of work to do now, firstly to stop them taking any more money, and, if it is possible, getting a refund. You certainly put lots of effort in to get the money back! Hope we have the energies you have. Thank you so much for your Blog. You have given us the knowledge we needed.

      ReplyDelete
    154. Like so many others, I wish I'd seen your blog before, and I can't believe how long these complaints have been going on for without the company being stopped. I was called by Jump up Media last week, and despite the fact that I never take cold calls, somehow the salesman was so persuasive that I fell for it. (He even said at first that his name was Dave Callum, but later in the conversation said he was David Jones - when I pointed out the discrepancy he said he was David Callum Jones - normally something like that would set alarm bells ringing, but he covered it so well that I carried on).
I don't even have a web-site, but he was offering to throw in the setting up of a basic web-site for free to get me up and running, so I paid the £99 + Vat (and the extra £10 + Vat for Google) - as some else said, the first figure mentioned was £99, with no mention of the £10 "one-off" payment to Google. I am used to business charges being quoted without Vat, so didn't argue with that part.
I have received an email with terms and conditions, and also a letter with terms plus my invoice; however, they've had my money for several days and I still haven't heard anything about my web-site, despite emailing them, and until that's in existence I can't benefit from the Google placing (assuming that actually happens!).
I'm about to ring them to try and find out what's happening about my web-site, but would really prefer my money back - don't suppose that's going to work. Was dd card too, so money gone.
Glad to see at least some people have got somewhere, wish I was one of them.
      Thanks for the blog.

    155. Hi Anonymous
As you actually have a letter with terms of service and an invoice you probably have enough to prove breach of contract. You could try taking them to small claims court.

      ReplyDelete
    156. Had a call from them a couple of weeks ago. Fortunately we know a little of how adwords works. Their salesman said that we would appear at the top of the sponsored links for £99 all of the time regardless of the number of clicks as they had a special arrangement with google to get unlimited clicks in a top 3 position for £99 per month. When I told him that google do not do that for anyone he changed his story but when I explained that the top adwords spots in my industry were over £3 per click he had to keep changing his story as to how we would get unlimited clicks in a top 3 position for £99 a month (you can see that if you get just 100 clicks a day at £3 then £99 is not going to last very long). They are just offering a basic adwords campaign, if they actually did what they say they will do they would soon be out of business.

Read your blog too late and have been caught for 3 months payments. No invoices received yet but all emails from them including my key phrases were sent to wrong email address so were never received by me. Phone call today threatened legal action which would result in costs and interest of 43% so I had to pay up. I am going to contact trading standards tomorrow and hope something can be done.

      ReplyDelete
    159. Hi Anonymous
Shame you didn't call their bluff. They would never have taken you to court. They threatened me with legal action a year ago if I didn't take this blog down. I'm still waiting. They can't afford to take anyone to court because they are the ones on the wrong side of the law.

    161. And another one hits the dirt! I was called by them and sadly, I fell for it. I called them up the same day and cancelled and they refused to give me my money back. So they are providing me with no services at all for a grand total of £130.80. I will be reporting them to local trading standards. I have a recorded phone call of them assuring me they are not to take any further money from my account. I have also reported them to my bank so if they do, they will be fined and I will be refunded. I sent them an email of cancellation and confirmed it over the phone, they have not responded to any emails and have not sent me any emails at all, all I have is a phone call I recorded. I doubt they will try to take any more money. If they do I will hammer them. But I'm stung with pretty much a theft of £130.80.

    168. Have been scammed by this company who called to offer 1st page advertising on Google. Was stupid enough to fall for their lies about no contract involved and one off payment of £180 for one month's advert. They kept my ad running for a further month as I hadn't written to them to cancel even though salesman in original phone conversation said I wouldn't need to cancel, it was just a one off payment.

Tried to stop money going out with Natwest but they were unable to help as money had already been requested - they had to let it go out!!!
I have contacted Watchdog, Manchester Trading Standards, Greater Manchester Police, Consumer Helpline and Action Fraud, to be passed from pillar to post.
Jump Up Media also lied about costs, they added on VAT after I'd agreed to the advert being placed.
They even called me last week offering me advertising, not realising that I'd had dealings with them before and their salesman told me the same old lies down the phone about no contract involved and one off payment, also that they were from Google! I played along with the call until it came to them taking my card details and then I hung up.

Avoid Jump up media like the plague, I'm having real problems trying to get my money back that they stole from my account!

    169. Hi all. Please also avoid NE Media Solutions (NEM Solutions) also based in Manchester. I got one month of Google advertising and no enquiries, so I decided to leave but they had already taken more money out of my account. I ended up going thru all sorts of hoops to leave. To quote someone else's review of them "If someone walked up to you in the street and offered you top spot on Google for £120 +VAT.. Would you hand over the money and your card details...?" think before accepting from any company. I no longer take advertising calls from anyone.

He was so reluctant to take any blame, and in the end said if i paid ANOTHER month he would give me a month free (buti have alre3ady paid for first month and didnt get the service promised!) and he would wave the 30 day cancellation policy (that i never signed up for in the first place) as this took well over an hour to go through.. and i was then running very late.. i had to go and asked him to send it all to me in an email so i could get it clear this time what he was offering. 'Of course' he said and of course i have received no such email! where is Esther rantszen when you need her!

When the caller declined, that's when I put my foot down and simply hung up on him - from the looks of other comments and the blog, it appears I was fortunate to cease the call when I did!

    175. Thanks, I'm already registered and was at the time. When you have your contact details on a web site for the purposes of allowing your clients to call you I don't think the telephone preference service can fully help. Jump Up Media isn't using some list it bought but rather trawling web site like ours for the details. I might be wrong though.

    176. I am a psychologist and exactly the same thing happened to me. In March 2013, I received a cold call from Jumpup Media about google listing of mywebsite in the first page of google search. I am afraid I also agreed to a trial period. I was assured that it would be only for 2 months and that they will not extend it unless I ask them to. They send me a report in April about the activities on my website through their listing. It looked like there wasn't much interestI certainly didn't get any refrrals through them. As it was just one off and I was very busy I didn't give any more thought to this matter. When I was going through my credit card payments recently I noticed that Jumpup Media has been harging me £30 a month ever since. Icouldn't believe my eyes. I ve just called them today to enquire about this matter. Suprise, suprise, they pretended to be very innocent about the whole thing. They told me that I signed up a monthly cotract with them and that I should have cancelled the service if I was not happy about it. They said they wouldn't giv me my money back and that I should cancel via a letter. It is only than that they will cancel it. I am very upset about the whole thing. So far apart from £64.80 they invoiced me for the trial period they also charged me in total £210 in monthly payments for a service that I didn't even know I was receiving. It's such a disgrace. Who should I complain to about this please? HD

    177. Hi HD

Sorry to hear about your dealings with Jump up Media. It appears there is very little you can do to get your money back other than to continue to hassle them until they give in, as they did with me. Write them a letter sent via recorded delivery telling them to stop what they are doing. I hesitate to say contract as there isn't one, or at least, not one they are sticking to. Phone them every day.
It would also be worth reporting them to Manchester Trading Standards and Watchdog. You can refer to this blog when you do so.
Good luck and keep us posted.

    178. Jump Up Media... what a pain. I recently set up an agreement for two key phrases at £36 inc VAT. Now on month 3. Key Phrases giving top listing but on checking my credit card £432 had been taken from my account. Have started a dispute through my cred card and sent a recorded delivery letter Jump Up Media and the telephone conversation I have just had with this was most rude and unhelpful. Looks like it may be a trip to the small claims court. Will keep you posted.

    179. If you keep checking your key phrases on the same computer you will always get top listing because the search engines remember what it was you were looking for and so place it nearer the top each time. You have to do the check using an anonymous search.
Good luck with getting your money back and do let us know how you get on.

    182. Hi Sally, you seem to be a great support to others in similar situations. Today I made a payment to Jump Up Media, despite my better judgement as I usually say no to any selling of this nature and am not really sure why I agreed today! Obviously it is too early to say what will happen but already I have not received my invoice by email within the half hour and four hours later had to phone and request one. Do you know which would be the address to write to cancel further payments because although it is supposed to be a one-off payment I do not trust that they will not take another payment next month? I notice that the address on the invoice is a different one from the one on the website? Any suggestions gratefully accepted!

    183. The address I wrote to was
      Andrew Woodhouse
      Jump Up Media
      Ashworth House
      175 Cross Street
      Manchester
      M33 7JQ

Send it recorded delivery so they can't say they didn't get it. Also tell you credit card company not to process any further money requests from Jump Up Media or Talking Fast Ltd.

    184. Hi, Fleming again. I write to inform you that I have called Jum Up Media. I explain: When I sold , or rather, when I cheated did so in Spanish , but to report the scam to the police and the bank , I called this company and called me a man speaks only English . I say please in Spanish and tells me no. I wanted to laugh at me.

The man, in a very derogatory and defiantly tells me I've called the police and say obviously yes. It also tells me that I have written in the blog of Sally and tell her so.

I said to remove the latest blog posts and Sally would return me the money. Are clearly coercing me .

In short, if my company puts me proceed to € 320 Posts ERASE because although I believe I work very poorly and are not professional , I understand that is not a scam since they have returned my money .

BACKGROUND: Jump Up Media, devolveis if I erase all my € 320 Posts so far in this blog. Conversely , if I devolveis me money, hinundaré blog network reporting of your company . I have knowledge of SEO positioning and I will not be that hard to get hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of people increasingly seeking information on Jum Up Media can read very negative comments DIFFERENT PEOPLE , not just Fleming, on your supposed company.

If you want to pay me back by e- mail me or phone me . ALWAYS IN SPANISH , that's how I vendistesis those great campaigns.

      I want my money . Remember : 320 €

Recordad: 320€

    186. Hi Flemming

I'm sorry but I don't speak Spanish and I am having trouble understanding your English, however, it's a lot better than any attempt I might have of speaking Spanish! that said, I think what you are telling is that Jump Up Media have promised to refund your money if I delete all your posts here. They won't, believe me. this is just another of their scams. They tried it on me too.

    189. Jumped Up Media told me they’re an approved Google ad words reseller. Google deny this – and point out their website doesn’t mention it. In short they told a load of lies to get the business. In fairness they did place the advert. One other thing, they told me it was a one off ad placement – then a read a bog about them, and read the small print – it was going to renew automatically. I called to ask for confirmation I would not be charged and they blanked all correspondence, until I sent a registered letter. Then a sales rep called to try and up sell – not at all interested in the issues or concerns. When I told him I just wanted confirmation they acknowledge I don’t want to renew, he got aggressive and said “f** you I’ll pull your advert today” and hung up. So I’ve paid in advance for an advert they’re not providing. If only they gave a bit of customer service, rather than this wide boy, vindictive sales rubbish – I would have probably renewed ( add words was working for me). I now use an approved supplier – that doesn’t have all the bad feedback. Should never buy on the phone – if you research Jump Up Media you’d never buy.

    192. Hi Sonia
I'm very happy for you. Assuming you are not connected all I can say is you've been very lucky. Let's hope it lasts. My advice to everyone else still stands though, avoid Jump up Media and Talking Fast Limited at all costs.

    193. Basically the person selling me Google ad words from Jump Up Media was less than honest. He told me I had no presence on Google searches – I’ve been shown since that I did. He told me I could trial it to see how it went, but latter found out my contract would auto renew. When I tried to cancel/change any details then Jump Up Media simply didn’t respond to any requests and I mean any. I e-mailed, wrote and phoned. They also told me they were an approved supplier of Google- I’ve checked with Google and they aren’t approved. They also charged me for a year and only gave me part of a year – as they simply blank your correspondence, nothing I can do but take them to the small claims courts. I expect they collect CCJ’s for fun. AVOID Jump up Media – there’s a reason they have to lie in order to sell, a reason why they can only sell to you if you don’t have time to check them out. AVOID “Jump Up Media” AVOID “Jump Up Media” AVOID “Jump Up Media” AVOID “Jump Up Media”
